PHONOGRAPHS

Base Cabinet for Serpentine Columbia BY Phonograph?  We believe this is a rare original base cabinet for a serpentine mahogany Columbia BY phonograph although it isn't marked as such and we do not have a BY to place on it or to compare measurements.  However it sure looks right and is the right height, serpentine on all four sides, with carving on the right edge of the front door.  Nice condition.  There is some applied carving on the upper right edge of the door which I am told may not be original and presumably could be easily removed.  Would be immensely impressive with a BY on it, assuming it fits right!  [SOLD]

Early Upright Desk/Piano Style Disc Phonograph. I really don’t know how to describe this or what to call it, we have never had another. It is upright, looks a bit like a desk, has a fall board like a piano that doubles back to expose the phonograph (wind up). The tag says “RichTone, Great Eastern Mfg Co, Chicago”. The tone arm has a Victrola No. 2 reproducer but looks like a Columbia tone arm. I’m told this phonograph is identical to the “Premier Phonograph” made by the Premier Phonograph Co., so who knows? Case is 25 ˝” wide, 57” wide, 18” deep (at the bottom). Fretwork on top front. Mahogany. Very nice all original condition. Record storage in bottom. $1550.
