CIN-1 (86) Delightful Six-Bell Cylinder Box With Butterflies & Flowers. This is a really neat bell box, six bells with very colorful painted or enameled butterfly strikers and flowers on top of the beautifully embossed bells. 11” cylinder, eight tune. This music box was restored by the Musical Museum in Maine some time ago but now has a problem of some sort with the spring or winding arrangement – a problem we expect to get fixed. No broken or repaired teeth. Decal decorations. Price dependent on cost of repair. [HOLD]

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 1 AND Year(Date)=2009 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %>

(65) Cylinder Music Box with Three Bells. Three bell box, 6" cylinder, tune card. New support board for bells. Eight tune. 8 broken teeth, endless and blades missing from governor. 17 ½" wide, 9 ½" high, 11 ½" deep. Handyman special $350.

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 1 AND Year(Date)=2009 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> ANC-128S (81) Mermod Freres 14 Ύ” Cylinder Box with Chinamen Striking Bells and Organ! It is unusual and great fun to find one of these bell boxes with Chinamen to strike the bells – in this case there are three Chinamen striking six bells. But it is really unusual to find one of these that also has an organ section! And manufactured by a fine Swiss company like Mermod Freres. Twelve tune, one broken tooth, tips missing on bell teeth and this bell section of the cylinder needs repinning.. Strikers currently non-functional because of the broken tips. Cylinder plays fine and otherwise in very good general unrestored condition but organ is not playing. Needs a full mechanical restoration. Tune sheet. A wonderful opportunity. You won’t find another, I know we have not had another of this scale and complexity in this Mandarin format. $4800

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 12 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> MHA-128 (80) Handyman Special - Piccolo Format 16" Cylinder Music Box. This one has good potential for recovery but needs a lot of work. Many tips are missing on the comb, and there is some light rust on the comb, however there are no broken teeth. It will undoubtedly need repining. The ratchet is disconnected, but the box does run. Missing the stop lever for the zither. The veneer/finish is worn with some scratches. Some veneer banding inlay is missing on top but otherwise virtually all of the inlay is there but the case will need a full and careful restoration. One foot is missing on the case and the glass in the inner lid is missing. Twelve tunes. $650

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 11 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> SA-118C  (78) Beautiful Paillard Five-Cylinder Music Box with Elaborate Inlay. This is a really lovely music box manufactured by E. Paillard & Co (this is a very early name for Paillard, although this music box most likely dates from around the 1870’s). Excellent sound despite needing a normal mechanical reconditioning. Five cylinders (which will require better storage than they now have). Eight tune, cylinders are 14 ½” long. Case is exceptionally attractive with elaborate inlays on top and in front (some scratches), large ornate handles. Beautifully engraved control plate. Needs normal reconditioning, adjusting, and considerable damper adjustment/replacement. Case is 35” wide, 13 ½” deep, 9 ½” high. $6800.

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 11 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> ANC-108D (75) Important Samuel Troll Very Large Interchangeable Cylinder Music Box with Bells in Desk Format, Possibly An Exhibition Piece What a special music box! This is a large and very impressive piece of furniture and an exceptionally fine sounding music box with very large cylinders. There are four 8-tune cylinders, 21 ½” X 3 Ό”. The music box is exceptionally fine quality as is the case. The music box sounds great, beautiful tone, has an organocleide effect to it, with great arrangements and perfect combs, with nine delightfully integrated bells, and even has a massive brass bedplate. The music box case is in excellent condition except for some areas on the lid that look like knots but are probably damage to the veneer, the music box is so fine that it even has inlay around the border of the inner glass lid, something I don’t recall having seen before! The base case is also of exceptional quality, there is a door on the right side for storing the cylinders (only the top two are fitted out for cylinders, the bottom two are short and were presumably designed for regular usage). There is a desk writing surface and three drawers with what appear to be ivory knobs. Overall 45” wide, 48” high, 24 ½” deep. Manufactured by Samuel Troll per the silver or nickel-plate plaque, serial number 3761. Possibly an exhibition piece as denoted by the “X” after the 3761 serial number, certainly a unique opportunity. $33,000.

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 10 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> ANC-108F (74) Important and Spectacular Large Carved Mermod Freres Ideal Sublime Harmonie Piccolo with Rare Carved Based Cabinet. One of the rarest and most desirable of all the great large Mermod Freres music boxes. This one has six 18” cylinders and the typical wonderfully loud and beautiful Mermod sound, from a fine original mechanism with perfect combs in the Ideal Sublime Harmonie Piccolo format. The music box case has carving over the entire front (most of the big Mermods only have carving over part of the front), there is some discoloration on the lid. However what really makes this a standout museum piece is the rare heavily carved base cabinet combined with the music box case with full frontal carving. The base cabinet is truly exceptional, very high quality. [Note – we have the bottom right front corner molding and a couple of other small trim moldings that are missing in the photos] Music box is 38 ½” wide, 15 Ύ” deep, 11” high, base cabinet is 44 Ύ” wide, 19 Ύ” deep, 38 Ό” high. This is a catalog (see page 55 of Bower’s Encyclopedia) model that originally sold for $812.50 plus $55 per cylinder! A rare opportunity for a museum acquisition. $30,000  [HOLD - DH]

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 10 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> ANC-108E (73) Mandoline Basse Piccolo Style Interchangeable Cylinder Music Box with Three Cylinders. An interesting interchangeable cylinder music box in a scarce and desirable musical format and in a decorative case with a rich oak finish and with heavy paneling on the lid and carving on the corners of the front of the case. On a table that is not matching and probably not period but works well. Mandoline Basse Piccolo is basically an Organocleide format. Three cylinders, each 14" long X 2 ½" diameter. Unrestored but playing okay, has had eight teeth replaced, needs a normal mechanical restoration and perhaps redampering. $6,800 with the table.

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 9 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %>

(69) Important Large Orchestral Interchangeable Cylinder Music Box With Automata Mandarin Bellringers. A very large orchestral box with six 19 1/2” X 2 7/8” cylinders. Includes an exceptionally large 33-key organ section and three automata Mandarins ringing six bells. Fine six-tune spacing provides 102 teeth on the two music combs. Plus snare drum and castanets. Plays quite well except that the organ needs a bit more power (sealing of leaks). Case is missing some molding on the interior of the lid and a significant amount of metal banding is missing. Some cylinders need some repinning. This will be a truly exceptional music box when fully restored – exceptionally eye catching mechanism with the Mandarins. $14,000.

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 9 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> LV-8810 (72) Mandoline Cylinder Music Box With 11” Cylinder. Lovely 8-tune music box with 11” cylinder. Popular and Patriotic tunes. Inlaid lid. Partially restored (dampers adjusted). No tune card. $1350.  [HOLD - LD]

 <% if month(date)=> 1 AND month(date)=< 9 AND Year(Date)=2008 then response.write "NEW LISTING!" else response.write "" end if %> CA-881 (70) Large Nicole Freres Full Orchestral Interchangeable Cylinder Music Box with Matching Table. 17 ½” cylinder is interchangeable but there is only one cylinder with the music box, eight tunes.. Six bells, two sets of castanettes, drum. Plus an exceptionally large 30-note organ section. Huge brass bedplate. Matching table (no fittings for cylinder mounting). We’ve been told that this was called the “Nicole Imperial” model but we can’t confirm that. Plays well except that the organ needs some attention. This is a huge music box, case measures 44 ½” wide, 22 Ό” deep, and 15” high. Table adds 28” of height. $12,000. ($11,000 without the table).

(56) Oak Carved Mermod Freres Ideal Soprano with Four 20” Cylinders and Matching Table. This is the second largest size Mermod, and I believe it is scarcer than the 24 ½”, at least that has been our personal experience over the past 35 years. Fat cylinders, six tunes each, fine comb. Ideal Soprano format. This one is playing great. Has had a recent cleaning and polishing of the mechanism – I don’t think it had ever been touched up to that point, which is exactly how we love to find them but rarely do nowadays. The combs are perfect. All original, complete with original tune cards and album to hold them. Beautiful carved oak case and matching table have their original finishes, missing lid support. A rare and wonderful opportunity. $28,000.

(57) Cylinder Music Box With Hidden Drum. That’s right, hidden drum – no bells. This originally had hidden bells as well but they are missing, although the bell comb is still there. Cylinder is 15” x 2 Ό” with 9/84/6 teeth, one broken, some surface rust. Smooth bedplate, SN 43396. Plays, very bright, but has a lot of damper noise, should be repinned, no tune sheet, probably eight or ten tune. PRICE REDUCED TO $1200
